  Online education at Periyar University was started in 1997 by the Tamil Nadu government and was formed by the Directorate of Distance Education within Periyar University in 2001–2002. Periyar Institute, a highly renowned university, is located in Salem, Tamil Nadu. Periyar University Online Education Programs are more than 92 which are offered by the university in the field of both UG(undergraduate) and PG(Postgraduate) programs which include, B.Com, BBA, BCA, MA, M.Com, MBA, and MCA. All these programs are approved by UGC( University grant commission). The sole criteria used to determine whether students are admitted to these programmes are the eligibility conditions and the application form submitted by the applicants. Additionally, the students have a choice of over 54 Personal Contact Programs (PCP) centres and can enrol in an online learning programme.
